Mark McDermott's Bizarroatmeal Stout "Drink It! It Am Awful!" Brewed May, 2002 • 1/2 lb. Crystal Malt (30¡ Lovibond) • 1/2 lb. Pale Ale Malt • 1-1/2 cups oats Steep in 2 gal. water at 160¡ at least 30 min. or until water poured through steeping bag runs clear. Add: • Glenview Irish Stout Kit extract (7 lb.) Add water to 5 gal. Bring to boil for 1 hour. Since the kit is pre-hopped, we will only add some finishing hops: • 1/2 oz. Spalt hops (4.9% AAU), and • 1 oz. sweet orange peel at :05 min. before end of boil The kit came with a packet of dry yeast and Pilsener enzyme, which I added during the boil to give my pitched yeast more nutrients. Transfer to primary, cool to 75¡ F. • White Labs WLP007 (Dry English Ale Yeast) Primary: 13 days at 68¡ F. Transfer to secondary, add 3-4 sticks of cinnamon bark (sterilized in vodka). Secondary: 14 days at 70¡ F. Prime with 3/4 cup corn sugar at bottling. O.G. 1.054 F.G. 1.014 ABV: 5.4%
